As a member of the Hickory community for more than five decades, it’s been my privilege to get to know the people who call our city home.
Many of you have talked to me about the things you care most about, and those issues are driving my candidacy, just as they will drive my time as mayor.
In particular, the two concerns I hear most often are: making sure Hickory remains a great place to raise a family — but also crafting it into a city that can grow and thrive.
Smart Leadership Does Matter
I love Hickory. I’ve lived my life here. I started a career and rose through the ranks here. I threw my hat in the ring and became a local leader here. I raised my family here.
Just like you, I’ve seen our city endure times both good and bad. I’ve seen economic conditions sink but also soar. And I’ve carefully observed how smart leadership can impact that pendulum’s swing.
Throughout my history in Hickory, I’ve developed a keen appreciation for how much potential our city has. I’ve also seen how growth-oriented leadership can harness that potential.
I was proud to help our community leaders facilitate important changes that have benefitted the city. Indeed, Hickory has just begun to reap the seeds of growth in recent years, and I’d like to think that — as a city alderman and a community advocate — I was a part of sowing those seeds. But we have a lot more planting and harvesting to do… together.
An Eye on Growth
Hickory’s mayor must give undivided attention to the future. Our city should be stronger ten years from now than it is today.
To get there, we will need to seize opportunities for new growth, and the mayor must recognize those opportunities as they arise. Pro-growth leadership is essential.
As Hickory Mayor, I would focus on three areas of growth in particular:
- Job Growth
- Tax Base Growth
- Population Growth
Every effort we initiate must have an economic development component. Success will come as a result of strategic planning toward a clear set of goals. Hickory can absolutely continue to grow, and with the right leadership, I believe it will.
Hickory Has the Whole of My Attention
As Mayor, I will devote my full-time focus to the needs and demands of this city and her people. No other employment obligations will occupy my time.
My experiences on the police force and in city government have uniquely equipped me as an advocate for our citizens. I know our city, how it works, and what it needs. I truly believe the time has come for me to bring those insights and experiences to the table, putting them to work for the people of Hickory.
The City Manager form of government has served Hickory well for more than 100 years, and I look forward to carrying on in that great tradition, charting new paths for tomorrow.
You can count on me as a caretaker of the public funds and a steward for Hickory’s future success. You can count on me to listen to you, talk to you, make myself available to you, and represent you — both during the campaign and while in office. You can count on me to make a difference and a change.

The right leader in the right position at the right time can be a game changer. I’m ready to put Hickory on a path toward new growth. I hope you’ll join me.
Today, I ask you to put your trust and confidence in me by allowing me the honor of serving as your mayor.
